Thursday is Market Day!

Every Thursday there is a food Market a very short walk away from my office! When I go into work on Thursday, I think... hmmm what should I eat for lunch... then I remember it's THURSDAY! I instantly get a big grin on my face. The market has lots of different food vendors which are all delicious! Today the market was extra good because it is a beautiful day outside with not a cloud in the sky!
Let me take you on a picture adventure through my amazing lunch break today! I ate from this vendor today. For 35 rand, or about $4... you get a huge pita filled with hummus and three other delicious dishes of your choice.  I chose the following three: "herby green couscous salad with goat's cheese and cashew nuts," "mexican black bean and corn salsa salad," and "fresh spinach and lentil salad with crispy green apples and red wine vinagrette." It was delicious!!! Beth and Mom, we need to try and make some of those dishes, especially the last one!
Since it was such a beautiful day, I decided to indulge in some ice cream from a small vendor called The Creamery. I couldn't decide between two different flavors, so I got them both! :) hehe.  The flavor on the bottom is Ethiopian Coffee... let me just say it was some of the best ice cream I have ever had! On top was Lime curd....Mom, you would have lovvvvved it!!!
Hey Beth, do you remember this tree?
Well if you don't, here is a refresher! Me by the same tree in 2010! The cool tree is still standing! :)
It was so beautiful out, I took a stroll with my ice cream through Company Gardens... bet you wouldn't have guessed that downtown Cape Town had that much vegetation!

Table Mountain and the rose garden behind me :)  Im surprised I don't look more sad.. I had just finished the last bite of my delicious ice cream cone!

Company gardens... I would like to inform you all that I have now seen 3 ginormous rats in Cape Town.. two of which I saw in Company Gardens... the one I saw today was just living among the low vegetation along with all the fat squirrels.  I was walking home from the gym yesterday evening and one ran by me on the side walk... it definitely scared me... and they are huge rats... like big squirrels.  Sorry Jeff if you have nightmares after reading this,
I look so happy :) By the way, that is the new jacket I got :)

Urban jungle!

My Sunday Stroll in Sea Point, Green Point, and the Company Gardens

Hey everyone!  Sunday was a beautiful day so I took a stroll from where I am staying in Sea Point to Green Point and then on to City Centre and the Company Gardens.  Here are some of my pictures!

 Cool palm tree!

The small beach in Sea Point.

The Promenade in Sea Point that I always talk about. It is amazing to walk along after work and watch the sunset :)

A cool looking lighthouse in Green Point.

In Company gardens.... Signal Hill in the background.

On Saturday night we watched the England vs. South Africa Rugby match.  I drank the local brew of Devils Peak first light Golden Ale.  It was quite hoppy and quite delicious.  Let's just say that by the end of the match at 7pm... I didn't drink any more and still had a buzz on when I went home at midnight after the Euro match.  Devils Peak is the mountain that is right next to/attached to Table Mountain...I'm hoping to hike it as well!

Hey Beth, do you remember Mitchell's? For those of you who do not know this story... the night or two before the World Cup started in 2010, Beth and I went to Mitchell's Brewery and I might or might not have drank a lot and danced around with other soccer fans from around the world!  Great night!

Noordhoek Beach

Hey guys! Yesterday I took an afternoon trip down past Hout Bay, through Chapman's peak, to Noordhoek Beach area.  We all walked on the beach for a bit, then went to this amazing outdoor restaurant where they had live music for lunch.  Some very famous Rugby player who is now an announcer was at this place with his family.  The weather was beautiful and the day was amazing!

On the drive down to Noordhoek beach... I think this is a part of the 12 apostles.

Noordhoek beach.. it's off the beaten path... not a touristy beach.. lots of surfers and evidently lots of sharks!  There were tons of people with their doggies... so cute!  Made me miss my puppy Sandie!

I love the beach!

Representing George Mason School of Public Policy! haha
Evidently the water is freezing!  But at least it was about 70 degrees outside.

The great place that we ate lunch at... I had a pesto, feta vegetarian wrap that was delicious!
 Driving on Chapman's Peak

Hout Bay beach... evidently there was a shark attack there not too long ago!
A soccer match going on in Hout Bay... we stopped and watched for a bit.

The field had puddles all over it from the previous day's rain.

A picture of the lead singer of the crazy, weird, psycho group Die Antwoord. Look them up if you have never heard of them... your life will change forever... maybe for the worse... haha.
I was at the store and I found the green tea!!!! To those of you who do not know this reference... when I was in South Africa in 2010 I was feeling sick so my sister went to the pharmacy and got this medicine slash tea... and I made the tea it was NEON green. So I was acting a bit loopy... I think I was just acting myself haha but everyone in the house blamed the green tea for all the weird things that I said.  "Katie's on the green tea again"

More posts coming soon!
